Virtual Identity and CriminalityPosted: May 28, 2012
Virtual worlds allow us to create unique and enhanced identities without the constraints of our physical self. This may have the effect of allowing us to live free from moral constraints like empathy and allow us to explore darker sides of our personality. According to Marc Goodman at Big Think it also allows our virtual selves to get away with deception far more easily – as we are freed from the tell-tale signs of real world deception. The University of Stanford has some interesting projects which explores virtual identities, this research can help predict the kind of misuse of virtual worlds likely to occur in the future.
